LOOK 2 – VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

I just love a crisp white shirt dress!

Albeit shapeless and boxy, it still exudes elegance.  A big trend this spring, I paired this shirt dress with another trend still with us from last year – the blanket cape.  Perfect for layering and super comfortable to sit and watch a series of runway shows in ;p

 Outfit:  Shirt Dress, Blanket Shawl, Necklace – H&M / Heels – Zara / Clutch – Aldo / Lips & Nails – Revlon

VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK – STYLE DIARY – LOOK 1

For those that know me, from the moment I moved to Vancouver 4 years ago, my aim has been to highlight local designers and boutiques and showcase their talent either on my blog, in editorials or at local events. This season I’m more than honored to show off  a gorgeous piece by emerging designer Alex S. Yu’s from his s/s 2015 collection at Vancouver Fashion Week.

I love the exaggerated shape and structure of this top and the metallic patch work – bang on trend for Spring and Summer this year.  I wanted to draw out the pink and red tones in the plastic foil fabric, so I paired it with a lustrous red skirt and red lips and nails.

Outfit:  Top – Alex S. Yu / Skirt – H&M / Heels – Forever 21 / Clutch – Jennyfleur Loves / Earrings – Topshop

EMERGING DESIGNER – INTERVIEW WITH VESTIGE

Vestige Vancouver Emerging Designer

A recent coffee date with a friend turned into a delightful and inspiring meet up with Aileen Lee, the talented emerging designer behind her refreshing brand, Vestige.

It is one thing to be extremely creative, but you create a whole other beast when you combine that with intelligence, literature and business skills.   Aileen did not come from a design background.  In fact, she studied English Literature at UBC, at the request of her parents, and then went on to obtain her master’s degree in fashion management.  However, fashion design was something she always loved and upon completing her education, she decided to take a chance and follow her passion.

“My style is simple and neutral. I wear what is comfortable, and that is my first priority when designing products.”

What is the story behind your brand?

Vestige is the brainchild of fashion and literature. I have always been fascinated with the interconnections between people, and this is how I link fashion with literature. Both are vessels capable of telling others who we are, creating a bridge between individuals. Clothing is a language of its own.

Each season, Vestige tells a story of two girls, brought together by a message in a bottle. In a day and age where communication is undervalued, we try to promote the importance of connecting with others. In each story, a girl would write a message and send it off in a bottle. The process brings two seemingly different individuals together.

What type of woman are you designing for?

The type of woman who seeks meaning in life, and values her experiences. She is someone who digs deep, someone who appreciates beauty, as well as quality and craftsmanship. Vestige is very organic. We have a small team that does everything ourselves, and we use very little hired help. Our customer is someone who welcomes life in its most natural form.

What has been the most rewarding part of your career in design?

The people who became a part of or supported Vestige. Building up a brand is no easy feat, it is a wholehearted investment with no guarantees at the end of the tunnel. Yet everyone I’ve met along the way has been really supportive, and it made me realise how warm our community is.

What would you consider as the most important trait of being a designer?

Intuition and perception. Know who your audience is, because a strong design does not only cater to yourself. Design is an interactive playing field that shapes and sharpens your work with continual feedback and conversation.

Where can people buy/view your s/s 15 collection?

Our look book is up on our website, where you can read the full collection story. We will be showcasing our Spring/Summer collection at a pop up store in April. More details to come!

STYLE DIARY

SPRING STYLE

Whoo hooo – I fit into all my clothes again!!!

Naturally, this celebration calls for my first style diary of the year after the arrival of my little dude ;p

The last 6 weeks have been a whirlwind of minimal sleep, lots of dirty diapers and constant feeding, which doesn’t sound appealing in the slightest but let me tell you, it’s all completely outweighed and forgotten in an instant the moment Liam gurgles or gives a little smile, the way he snuggles up to me and all the other special moments in between.

So back to style talk – the sunny Vancouver weather inspired me to freshen up my look and this blouse packed the perfect punch of colour which is made even brighter against the dark tan vintage leather coat.

Outfit:  Blouse – Jennyfleur Loves... / Boyfriend Jeans – Zara / Heels – Guess / Coat – Vintage / Earrings – Accessorize / Bag – Urban Outfitters

STYLE DIARY – Fall/Winter Trends

It’s been a few weeks since the last style diary so don’t freak out when you see how my bump has grown ;p  I’ve spent the last little while nesting like crazy and trying to meet deadlines on various projects before my little man arrives – eeeeek!

This outfit was built around my new Nine West heels from Mine & Yours – I love the colours and the on trend print!  And my grey Kate Spade coat  – the perfect winter neutral (a must have tone for every wardrobe this season) and it also works perfectly for my baby bump.

Outfit:  Dress – Winners / Coat – Kate Spade / Hat & gloves – H&M / Bag – Fine Finds / Heels – Mine & Yours / Scarf – Old Navy / Nail Polish – Essie

Bump – 35 weeks ;p
