VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK F/W 15 – DAY 4

By: Evelyn Chen

NIGHT X DAY

NIGHT X DAY presented an element of sophisticated luxury featuring simple pieces perfect for everyday wear. The collection consisted of well-tailored suits made modern with large fanned out scarves and Mountie hats, along with oversized shirts paired with leather jackets. The style was kept clean, paired with loafers, with calf high socks for all to see. A little haughty, elements of cheekiness was thrown in as models walked down the runway with different shoes on each foot. A subtly playful move. Night x Day Vancouver Fashion Week

NOE BERNACELLI

The long anticipated wait for For Day 5 at Vancouver Fashion Week was instantly forgotten while guests rested their eyes on the extravagantly crafted pieces by Noe Bernacelli. The runway was lit with precious stones, delicate fabrics, and wispy feathers that transformed the energy of the crowd to one of dreamy elegance. From ready-to-wear day pieces to evening wear and flowing gowns, there was an item for every occasion that every woman cannot deny finding a use for.

From delicate lace to silks the show was complete luxury. The designer’s skills balanced with his designs that molded to the model’s bodies transported viewers from rainy Vancouver to the runways of Paris.

Many details could be spotted, including flowers made of feathers and stone jewels, as well as other surprises such as hidden pockets in the seams of his gowns. While capes were whispered to be making a comeback for fall, Noe Bernacelli incorporated this trend into his coats and dresses, inspiring viewers to revisit this trend.

Noe Bernacelli’s display of garments showcased the designer’s understanding of women’s bodies. His craft was reminiscent of Valentino in the way his pieces allowed women to feel and walk with added elegance.

VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK F/W 15 – DAY 3

 By: Justine Barnes

Despite the rain, the crowd seemed to be in good spirits, much thanks to the MC for the evening, Symone Says.  She is known around Vancouver for being one of the best performing drag queens with infectious whit and charm.

Here are the collections that stood out for us on Day 3 of Vancouver Fashion Week.

Pouneh Askarian

Pouneh Askarian’s creations this season were stunning! The models looked elegant while walking the runway in the  collection that consisted mostly of black, grey, cream and white. A pleasing variety of fabric manipulation added to the depth of this line.

Nadia + Zehra

The London based, twin sister fashion designers energized us with their loud and in-your-face collection. Staying true to form, they produced looks full of mixed and matched prints, metallics, faux fur and colours.  Nadia + Zehra were a huge hit this season, just as they were two seasons season ago and we are looking forward to seeing what they do next! Atsushi Nakashima

We love everything about this designer and his clothing.  Atsushi Nakashima’s collection consisted of futuristic sporty pieces prominently in a neutral palette with some serious pops of neon yellow and green.  Most items were made with trending neoprene, enabling the designer to take advantage by incorporating some beautiful folds and structure to the line.

VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK – STYLE DIARY – LOOK 1

For those that know me, from the moment I moved to Vancouver 4 years ago, my aim has been to highlight local designers and boutiques and showcase their talent either on my blog, in editorials or at local events. This season I’m more than honored to show off  a gorgeous piece by emerging designer Alex S. Yu’s from his s/s 2015 collection at Vancouver Fashion Week.

I love the exaggerated shape and structure of this top and the metallic patch work – bang on trend for Spring and Summer this year.  I wanted to draw out the pink and red tones in the plastic foil fabric, so I paired it with a lustrous red skirt and red lips and nails.

Outfit:  Top – Alex S. Yu / Skirt – H&M / Heels – Forever 21 / Clutch – Jennyfleur Loves / Earrings – Topshop

From Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd March, Vancouver Fashion Week will return to its downtown venue at Queen Elizabeth Plaza.

The Opening Gala, on Monday 16th March, will kickstart the week of seven days of showcase events, presenting the creative talents of over 30 designers from all over the world.

Vancouver Fashion Week founder Jamal Abdourahman is thrilled of the breadth of creative talent from new as well as returning designers. Jamal said,

“We are looking forward to sharing amazing creativity this season, with Vancouver shining the spotlight on lots of great local and international talent. We love to celebrate the diversity of fashion culture, and Vancouver provides this perfect platform to support emerging talent.”

Amongst the top-returning designers is Noe Bernacelli, whose Peruvian international style and beauty has been greatly received in Vancouver. He will be joined by Shravan Kumar whose motto, ‘Fashion is religion, than mere profession’, inspired his unconventional designs and use of textiles.

Also on the lineup is Korean designer Hong Kiyoung. Kiyoung is widely recognized for his luxury streetwear, which experiments silhouettes and colorful prints.

Every season, Vancouver Fashion Week continues to push its boundaries and strives to attract new and emerging designers from across the world.

This season it welcomes Chinese designer ILOVECHOC who mixes cute cartoon designs with luxury fabrics. Korean company JUKOjulie who has been greatly welcomed into the New York fashion scene and designer Paloma Sanchez who has been recognized as one of the 30 best jewelry designers in the world (‘Unique Book; The Best Jewelry Designers’.)

VFW also continues to support the city’s homegrown talent with the return of local designers Connally McDougall, Grandi’s Atelier and Sara Armstrong. All three designers are local to Vancouver and are inspired by the city.

Sara Armstrong said, “I am excited to be returning for FW15 at Vancouver Fashion Week. The team are a great group of creative minds and they are amazing to work with. They are setting the pace for up and coming Canadian fashion designers supporting them with an international market. It is the best fashion event in western Canada and I cannot wait for the Opening Gala.”
