Goorin Bros. – Carnival Hat Event
By: Justine Barnes
Goorin Bros. “A family of Bold Hatmakers” is located in Yaletown, along with many other locations around North America, including Los Angeles, Toronto and New York. Every time a new line of hats comes out (monthly) they have a party, which is pretty impressive on their part.
They recently launched a new line of carnival inspired hats, which meant throwing a carnival inspired party! Each employee dressed up in festive outfits topped off with with appropriate hats. They offered beer by Red Racer, popcorn, live music and had carnival games to boot. What a fun way to promote this line!

Jessica and Elise, Assistant Manager’s of this location gave us a brief history lesson on this brand. Goorin Bros. has had a retail space in Yaletown for 4.5 years now, but the company has been around since 1895 and was started by Cassel Goorin in Pennsylvania. Each hat made carefully, adding the right feather, sewing the right lining to create unique and individual piece. In 1921 Cassel taught his sons the art of the business and they took over. The first retail location was opened in 1949 in San Francisco “blending east coast tradition with west coast lifestyle.”
In 2006 Cassel Goorin’s great-grandson took over the company, continuing to stay true to the family business and brought back secret hat recipes and adding modern twists. This company is extremely focused on genuine interaction with their clients and having fun with their customers is key. Jessica and Elise mentioned that they also have a weekly happy hour. Every Thursday from 5-7 pm, which includes a discount of 15%. It’s nice to see a company, such as this one, that is so customer focused and driven by the people they serve.
If you are in the market for a new hat, Goorin Bros. in highly recommended. Stay tuned for their next party!
