Let’s turn back time with a few of our favourite anti-aging products. We’re wrapping up our skin series with Clarins, Vichy, and Kiehl’s.  If you missed the previous topics, click here:  PART 1, PART 2.

For our last post I got together with my favourite person in the world, my mom, who tells it as it is.  Here are a few products we tested on her and which made the cut.

The Clarins Super Restorative Day was dubbed as her favourite. It was creamy but not heavy, providing her the hydration she was looking for while giving her a radiant glow.

Details about Clarins Super Restorative Day Cream (For Very Dry Skin ...

I tried to get my mom on board with the Clarins Double Serum. This is a great serum that absorbs nicely into the skin. However, it does take a few minutes and my mum just didn’t have time for that.

While Vichy has its own following, the Vichy Liftactiv Global Anti-Wrinkle and Firming Day Care could not compete with Clarins.  After giving my mom the Clarins Super Restorative Day to try, she hasn’t returned to Vichy.

Lastly, she tried Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Eye cream, having had a great experience with Kiehl’s in the past. She is unsure how she feels about the effects of the cream as she hasn’t seen a dramatic difference since adding it to her routine a month ago but she is still a fan of the product.

This wraps up our series!  We hope you’ve enjoyed our selection of products as much as we loved telling you about it!

Skin Care

Part 2 of the series features products to address two of the most irritating and frustrating skin problems: blemishes and blackheads.  We’ve uncovered a few magical potions that will help you control these rascals.

If you missed PART 1 – HYDRATION – click HERE

1.  Get crystal clear with Kiehl’s Herbal Blue Moisturizer. This is a 2-in-1 product with astringent to get deep into your pores and zap your skin into order. This oil-free lotion is a good option for those with acne prone skin.

2.  Get to the root of the problem with Clinique’s Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel to target those stubborn bad boys. This is perfect for those who prefer Salicylic Acid treatments. Bonus: it’s allergy tested and fragrance free.

3.  My My Mattify with Coni Beauty Black Whitening Jelly Mask. With skin calming rose water and other goodies, this mask draws out excess oil and gives you radiant, brighter skin. Also, it’s a super fun mask to use.

4.  Get control over your skin with the Clarisonic Mia. This is an investment item worth investing in – it just requires a little patience. Keep in mind this tool is designed to provide a deeper clean than using your hands. Your skin needs time to adjust. When you first use the Clarisonic don’t use it every day but rather twice a week!  Start off slow and build up to it. Overall, the Clarisonic helps improve the look of your skin.  If you struggle with blackheads this will definitely help while giving your skin an instant glow due to its exfoliating brush.

Clarisonic Mia

While looking into recent updates about the Clarisonic, I came across this special lil something for the guys. The Clarisonic Mia2 and Jack Black partnered up to buffer out those rough edges and its brush helps to soften course hairs.  This, along with Jack Black, a great skin care line for men, makes the perfect combo.

5.  Say bye bye to blackheads with Dermalogica Precleanse. While most products reduce the appearance of blackheads, this product cleans out your blackheads. The logic behind this product is counter-intuitive, but the results are wonderfully blissful. After a few weeks of regular cleansing with this oil, you’ll notice your pores are cleared out. Tip: dab on a bit of astringent after cleansing to tighten up your pores in areas where you tend to have blackheads. Dermalogica Precleanse

For the weeks in between waiting for the effects to kick in, a great concealer is a must-have and we’ve got a couple under our belt that do the trick.

The Vichy Dermablend Corrective Stick 14hr is a great option for those with normal skin. This creamy concealer gives great coverage.  Just remember to set it!

For those with dry skin, the Lancome Maquicomplet is a no fuss option to use. Simply dab on with the doe foot wand and blend with a concealer brush or your fingers. This little guy has a loyal following.

While all these products combined may seem like a lot of time and energy, they’ve been designed to address a few of the most frustrating skin problems. However, at the end of the day, a good rule to go by is to avoid touching your face as much as possible! This tends to happen during times of stress, later developing into a regular habit. Not only does this aggravate your skin, excess oil that you don’t need is being transferred onto your face.  Be aware of your body and take care of skin problems as soon as you can. The earlier the start, the more likely you are to tackle the problem head on and minimize added stress later on.

Skin is one of the first things people notice. Having healthy looking skin is also one of the few features that is universally accepted as a sign of beauty. As a result, it is no surprise that skincare is a lucrative business. However, amidst the vast selection of products and multitude of skin care lines it can quickly become an overwhelming process. Which is why Coveting Chi Chi is featuring a 3 part series to target the top 3 most common skin frustrations with a few products to help you unveil your beautiful skin. First up on the list is HYDRATION. After a long hard search of different products, here to the rescue are 5 secret agents that help restore your skin’s moisture.

1. Grab A Nourishing Cleanser with Clarins, Extra-Comfort Anti-Pollution Cleansing Cream. This cleansing cream is more rich and creamy than other cleansers. It is much more gentle on the skin and contains ingredients such as mango and shea butter to keep your skin nourished after cleansing. Bonus: there is quite a lot of product in this 200mL bottle.

2. Embrace the Calming Toner with Fresh, Rose Floral Toner. This beauty is 100% pure rosewater to help return your skin to its natural pH levels after cleansing to maintain healthy, hydrated skin.

3. Get Oiled Up with Josie Maran, 100% Pure Argan Oil Light.  Argan oil is an added step that boosts your moisturizer’s power, leaving your skin feeling more supple and smooth. You only need 3-4 drops of this oil at a time, lasting you for months on end. Note: While this oil is the light option, I recommend using this after cleansing at the end of the day to minimize touchups and blotting throughout the day.

4. Skin, Drink Up with Fresh, Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream. This cream contains 7 active ingredients that work together by boosting your skin’s production of hyaluronic acid to help retain moisture. Depending on your skin type, this moisturizer can give you an added glow, or a soft sheen. Apply this moisturizer after cleansing and allow a few minutes for it to absorb into your skin.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream

However, if you’re tight on time (especially in the mornings!) try Kiehl’s, Ultra Facial Cream. It draws in moisture from the air around your skin while retaining your skin’s natural moisture.

5. Bat Your Youthful Eyes with Fresh, Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate. This eye cream leaves the eye area feeling velvety smooth. Even after cleansing the morning after.

However, if you don’t need eye care this powerful, try Fresh, Lotus Eye Gel. It hydrates and has a slightly cooling effect with the same 7 active ingredients as their face cream.

Bonus Round

For an overnight moisture recharge, Origins, Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask instantly hydrates your skin with a mixture of nourishing avocado, and seaweed to repair skin to its natural healthy state to prevent dehydration. While it is an overnight mask, not a lot of product is needed. Simply use this as if you’re using a regular moisturizer. It also smells divine.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

Regardless of your skin type, proper hydration and moisture for your skin has many benefits. One of the most important for many is anti-aging.

Be nice to your skin. It’s with you forever.

La Biosthetique Pop Art Trend Show F/W 2014

By: Justine Barnes & Nicolette

LA BIOSTHETIQUE wowed the audience with their 2014 Fall/Winter Pop Art Trend Show at Celebrities nightclub on Sunday, September 21st.  Think Andy Warhol, graphic prints, comics, rock & roll and fashion rebels. “Pop is everywhere. It takes everyday things and elevates them to art. It takes high art from museums and turns it into everyday things. LA BIOSTHETHIQUE’s new collection adds the spirit of Pop art to this season’s hair and make-up trends.  Artist Robert Indiana once said ‘pop is love, for it accepts everything’.”

La Biosthetique

La Biosthetique We managed to sneak back stage before the show and see some of the looks before they were presented on stage.  Anna Riese, lead makeup artist, informed us on the makeup looks that were trending.  “The 60s because that’s where the pop theme started.  We were inspired by twiggy and Brigitte Bardot.  It’s about color and contrast, having warm and cooler colors collapsing together makes it so interesting.”  An example of that would be, “using metallic golds and metallic blues with baby dolls lips like Bridgette Bardot had.  It is very innocent, but still sexy.  We focused on the eyes or lips but not both.  The makeup is a little bit more quite, like it was in the 60’s.”  She confirmed that bold, filled-in brows is still a big trend for fall, as are velvety rose-colored lips, with a powdery finish – quite but intense color.

The hair this season, masterminded by Marc Riese, Canadian Creative Director of LA BIOSTHETIQUE, included fresh cuts and coloured looks. “Soft layers for mid-length hair finished off with a precise fringe in sophisticated cool and warm shades of brown.”  This was also showcased in gorgeous shades of blonde.  For a slightly more androgynous but still elegant look, “light and radiant short-haired looks, consisting of cool and clear shades of blonde. The shape is graduated with lots of volume at the top and back of the head.”  The bob – we love the bob – “although it never looks the same and is completely variable thanks to the different lengths on both sides, it is emphasized by the fascinating colour graduation of bright and brilliant shades of red – depending on how you style.”  And for the guys, “an un-styled look that is rough and ever-changing. The soft short-haired look for men is created by a special cutting technique at the top of the head with the hair left in its natural colour.”

10403671_714067068677178_3103646650814978351_n The evening started off with the announcing of the  winner of the 2014 Beauty Stylist competition, Dylan Beatch (above centre).  A stylist from Black2Blond located in Vancouver, who will now compete in Paris for the international competition – huge congrats Dylan!

And the show began!  Each segment was opened up with a dance routine which set the vibe perfectly and there was no looking away.  Great dancing, over the top hair looks and great styling by Gian Carlo, Lady Fashion Stylist.
